About this entry: The leaders of Sacramento State and UC Davis continue the legacy of the cross-causeway rivalry before their universities meet on Nov. 18, 2023, for the 70th annual college football game between the Sacramento State Hornets and the UC Davis Aggies. Sacramento State and UC Davis partnered to create promotional videos to highlight their institution’s friendly rivalry and evoke excitement for the competition between their respective football teams. Sacramento State President Luke Wood and UC Davis Chancellor Gary May are shown in promotional videos engaging in pre-competition workouts at their campus athletic centers, side-by-side with their college mascots (Sacramento’s Herky the Hornet and Davis’s Gunrock the Stallion). The two university leaders will lead their teams onto the field prior to the start of the game to shake on a friendly wager for this year’s Causeway Classic football game: The leader of the losing university will make a donation to the other school’s food pantry.
